Eastern Canada from Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa, Halifax, Nova Scotia

I saw escorted tour that includes most of the above areas, including scenic rail journey along Atlantic Coast.

I haven't been to Eastern Canada, except for short weekend trip to Montreal. I prefer to travel independently using public transportation and am trying to find some information if this route might be possible using buses and scenic train. I am senior citizen and experienced traveler and would welcome some guidance from the Fodor experts.

I have toured the Canadian Rockies from Vancouver with escorted tour and enjoyed the experience tremendously. Many thanks.

Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and Halifax can easily be reached by Via Rail. In general our public transportation system is not as well developed as countries with a denser population but should be able to get to and around those cities without difficulty.

Public transport by air is well developed; you can easily find the websites for Air Canada, Westjet and Porter airlines. At the opposite end of the cost spectrum, Greyhound and Megabus serve some of your destinations.
The mention of Northwest Territories in your post tag is perplexing; that area is nowhere near the regions you asked about, being three or four time zones to the northwest. Do you have some plans for heading north? If so, be prepared for expensive travel. There are no really cheap ways to go north.

Thanks for above responses. I will look at itineraries from coach operators to help plan my route. I would get air ticket to Toronto and would like to see Niagara Falls before going forward. I will only be traveling the NE coast, the route that is offered to tourists from UK.

Will not be going to NW this trip. I had a 15 day tour covering the most scenic places that was very enjoyable.

Not going NW on this trip.
