7 hour Layover Toronto
 

My husband and I have a 7 hour layover in Toronto this Thursday. We land at 10:30am from NYC and depart for Lima, Peru at 5:40pm. Both flights are on the same Air Canada reservation so I assume that when we check our bags in NYC they will be checked through to Lima. We both have Global Entry so we expect to be able to clear customs/security fairly quickly (although this will be our first time using it so we'll see how much time it actually saves us).

We don't want to be totally bored sitting in the airport all day, especially since we have a long flight to Lima that evening, but we don't feel like we must go see this or that in Toronto and we don't want to be stressed or rushed getting back to the airport.

We'd also like to watch the US v. Germany World Cup game that starts at 1pm EST on Thursday. Suggestions for what we should do and where we could watch the game? Walk along the lake front and have lunch and watch the game at a bar? CN Tower? Or taxi to town of Brampton?

About how much does a taxi to/from the airport to downtown cost and how long does it take?

Some of the major highways in the Toronto core are under major renovation this summer, making your adventure downtown an unpredictable journey... after deplaning and pre flight, your layover is not quite as long as it seems...

The airport is well outside of the city and my guess for a cab would be over $50 each way...

perhaps one of the Toronto resident experts can point you to a nearby Futball hangout in the airport area, but personally I would hunker down in an airport sportsbar, order some poutine and beer and avoid the crazyness...

There is no need to guess the taxi fare from the airport - it is fixed fare based on zone travelled to. The fare to the downtown core in Toronto is $53 plus $2 fuel surcharge. Normal driving time would 30 minutes, increasing to maybe 45 in rush hour. I`m sure the taxi drivers are aware of any construction bottlenecks and how to avoid them. And, since it is a non-metered system, they have no incentive to take longer routes.

Sorry, I have no advice on how and where to spend your 3 to 4 hours in Toronto.

Not worth you trying to get downtown with the crazy traffic constructions going on. Not a lot around the airport but you could:
1)Take a taxi to Woodbine casino http://www.woodbineentertainment.com...s/Default.aspx, maybe 10 minute car ride away. There is also a mall across the road.
