Of course this is based on my tastes (which lean towards "natural" attractions although I like spending short amounts of time in interesting cities):
- Vancouver Island - Tofino and Pacific Rim National Park. Victoria is nice, Butchart Gardens also. - The Rocky Mountains National Parks. The drive up the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper, including the Athabasca Glacier, is spectacular. All the parks are special. - In Alberta - the Drumheller area Badlands and the Royal Tyrell Museum. - in Ontario - the scenically rugged "Canadian Shield" district and Parks, exemplified by Lake Superior Provincial Park and Killarney Provincial Park (both have short and longer hiking trails and canoeing/kayaking opportunities). I also very much like Algonquin Provincial Park for excellent short hikes, canoeing, scenery (forested hills and lakes) and wildlife viewing (e.g. moose). - Ottawa is a favourite city getaway- a nice compact downtown, easy to walk and most of the attractions are concentrated here (e.g. several very good museums, Byward Market shopping and dining area). - Old Montreal historic district. Dining out in Montreal. - Old Quebec City (Vieux Quebec) historic district - In New Brunswick - the spectacular Bay of Fundy Tides - best seen at Alma/Fundy National Park and Hopewell Rocks. - Whale-watching for the big species (and pelagic bird watching) off Grand Manan Island New Brunswick or Brier Island Nova Scotia (there is seasonality to this and popular so must be planned in advance) - in Nova Scotia - spectacular Cape Breton Island, especially the Cabot Trail scenic drive through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. - Also in Nova Scotia - the South Shore (also called the "Lighthouse Route") southwest of Halifax with historic and scenic towns and villages and great coastal scenery. Halifax is another great City getaway again with a nice compact downtown and vibrant Harbour district. - In Newfoundland - Gros Morne National Park is spectacular This is only a sampling of course from my own list of highlights. |
Thank you so much for taking the time to list all of that. I think we share the same tastes haha. I'm going to try and fit all of those things in. Thank you.

My friends own a lovely 18 room inn in St Andrews NB
rossmountinn.com Check it out. We have been there only once and cant wait to get back. You won't be dissapointed for a stay there. Sherri |
How are you planning on getting around? Public transportation is very limited in many parts of the country, and it's unlikely you'll be able to rent a car one-way across the country without incurring a huge fee.

My wife and I spent six weeks in AB/SK/BC in 2009 and four weeks in NL/NS in 2010.
