Hi I will be spending 4 days at the Royal York HotelI know there are many exciting things to do ..I was looking for any sugestions on Things not to miss..Having never been there I didnt want to miss out..I greatly appreciate it..Also I know Maple Lead gardens has closed but are there tours of the building and where would be the best place to buy memorabilia..Thanks so much <BR>Karen

I do not know about MLG tours, but there are tours of the new Air Canada Centre, and it is only a five minute walk from the hotel. Hockey Hall of Fame is even closer, one block east of the hotel. <BR>BAK <BR>

There used to be a nice souvenir shop just outside Maple Leaf Gardens. I would think that there is a similar shop - maybe the same one, outside the new arena. Don't miss the Royal Ontario Museum (especially the dinosaurs, Chinese, Jamaican bat cave, birds, and gems sections), Chinatown, the Hockey Hall of Fame (a lot of fun), and Yonge Street. Greek food down on Danforth is good. There is a large antique mall down at the waterfront if you like that sort of thing - it is excellent - I read that a lot of celebs go there to buy. Take a ferry across to the islands and back for a nice view of the skyline. The CN Tower is great in clear weather. It has a glass floor you can walk on if you dare - I don't like heights, but I did it, and it was an odd feeling. The University of Toronto campus is also nice for a walk.

Previous poster danwoodlief pretty well covered it. If you like to shop, check out the Eaton Centre and the Yorkville area. If there isn't a large Chinatown where you live, you might find it interesting to make the walk through ours, the main one being at Dundas and Spadina. The Art Gallery had a terrific restaurant - Agora - open for lunch. If you're at the Royal York, just walk a few blocks east and you'll be at the St. Lawrence Market - farmer's market. For the quintessential Toronto souvenir sandwich, get a peameal bacon on a bun there.

I didn't post this before. If you don't already know, Toronto is one of the leading theater cities in the world, perhaps only behind New York and London. So you may want to check out a show one night. I have been to see Phantom of the Opera at the beautiful Pantages Theater, where it has run for many years. It was packed, as it was a Saturday night, but I only ordered my tickets one day in advance. I highly recommend it. If you don't like Phantom or have already seen it, there are many other good shows to see. Do a search here for info on tickets. I have seen a place in the Eaton Center mentioned, where you can buy discounted tickets (on the upper floor I think). the Eaton Center has a web site, so you may find it there. The Royal Ontario Museum and Hockey Hall of Fame also have pretty good web sites.
