36 hours in Montreal where to stay what to do??

Hi we have booked a short vacation in Mont Tremblant but would like to stay in Montreal for one night and part of two days. We have never been except to drive by the Montreal forum last year on our way to Mont Tremblant ( I know it was out of way but we have a hockey fan who want to see it). We have 3 sons 18, 16 and 11 and would like to know what to see and where to stay. Our budget for lodging would be in the 150.00 night range no higher. Any and all suggestion would be great. Thanks Karen

Hi Karen,

For such a short trip to Montreal, you'll probably want to spend your first day in Old Montreal. Just walk around the cobblestone streets and soak in the architecture and ambience. There should be plenty of places within your price range for accommodation.

The second day, it depends what kind of people you are. If you like to shop and be around hustle-and-
bustle, walk up rue St. Denis or rue Ste. Catherine west of Place des Arts. If you want to walk in a pretty park, walk up Mont-Royal or catch the Metro down to Ile Ste-Helene for in my opinion the best view of the St. lawrence River from any vantage point in the City of Montreal. There are many great walking itineraries, and you can tailor them to your interests.

Spend money on food, because Montreal has world-class restaurants.

We like to stay at the Sheraton Centre when we travel with our teenagers. There is a great pool, it's easy walking to downtown, the rooms are nice, and sometimes they have great rates. We have also stayed at the Marriott Courtyard on Sherbrooke. Friends have stayed across the street at the Sheraton Four Points and liked it. The Delta chain has some well-located hotels as well. Have fun!

Here are some things the kids would enjoy - The Biodome ant the Olympic park is an incredible indoor habitat of rainforests and other exotic places. There is also the huge amusement park La Ronde, out on the island. For a memorable night, stroll down Prince Arthur street (which is a pedestrian mall), watch the street entertainers, and dine at one of outdoor restaurants and peoplewatch. The kids will ove it!

I know it sounds cliche, but you might want to grab a Greyline tour. the three hours we spent gave us an overall feel for Montreal and we went back to the places we liked. we stayed at the Queen Elizabeth and found the subway handy in the hotel. It's also in your price range... have fun
