24 hours in Vancouver
 

We will be in Vancouver for a 24 hour layover on May 1. Trying to decide a fun adventure. Like the outdoors and nature. Arrive around 1:00 on Sunday afternoon and leave Monday at noon. Bridge or Capilano River? Boat to Victoria?
any suggestions?

I don't think you will run out of things to see just staying in Vancouver.
Sunday afternoon Gastown, Chinatown and Granville Island then the next morning Stanley Park would be my suggestion.

Hmmmmmmmm... while Vancouver central is so awesome I can't envision myself wanting to venture out of town given just 24 hours... for you I am inclined to suggest going up to Grouse Mountain

(drive a few miles out of town, and then take a gondola car up the side of a mountain to the wintery climate at the top)

May 1 will find it plenty COLD up there, but they do have various outdoor activities.

but MAY 1 is likely to be tricky, with the weather... I don't know whether the summer stuff is open yet, and I don't know whether 'winter' is done with at the 4000-foot high elevation up there.

Do look into it as a unique sample of Vancouver.

Otherwise, urban surroundings in mid-Vancouver would suffice for most.

Fabulous museums at UBC--easy bus ride. But not open Mondays so do them on SUnday.
Interesting Vancouver Art Gallery in centre of city, Make sure you use new Canada Line to zip around to all these places--or to transfer to buses to get to these places--get a day pass.

Curious where you ended up going...

With barely 24 hours in Vancouver, there would be no point trying to get to Victoria, which takes 3-4 hours to get there one way. It's like saying you're going to Seattle for 24 hours, should I go to Portland, Oregon? :)

My suggestion would have been to just stick with Stanley Park downtown and the seawall - it could easily eat up your entire time. As for Capilano, I always recommend Lynn Canyon. Capilano Suspension Bridge is a tourist attraction and they charge $30 per person for admission to cross the bridge. There isn't a whole lot there afterwards. Lynn Canyon is a forested park with hiking trails, waterfalls, etc. It has a similar suspension bridge, and it's free.
