24 hours in Toronto: Which hotel? Top 5 things to see/do?

My family (me, husban, 10 month old son) have a 24 hour layover in Toronto on April 15/16 as we travel home from Italy. We arrive on Saturday at 4:30 and leave on Sunday for Cleveland.

Which hotel is recommended that would be near the airport (even have an airport shuttle), but allow us to easily get out to have a great meal and see some of the sights on Saturday night or Sunday morning/afternoon?

Found a great deal for the Sheraton attached to the airport, but is that really where we'd want to stay? Also found a good deal at the Wyndham.

I've been to Toronto several times as a child. . . husband has never been. What should we absolutely see on this very quick stop? I, of course, remember Eaton Centre, the Beaches (bus ride from Toronto), the CN Tower, and shopping in general. We were usually there around the time of the big carribean parade/festivities.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Toronto airport has three terminals, and the Sheraton is attached to Terminal 3.

So if you are leving from terminal, it is really convenient.

If you are arriving at three, is is semitconvient. At least you can check in easily.

There are shuttle buses from right in front of the Sheraton to the other terminals.

But if you have 24 hours in toronto, why not stay downtown, where there are interesting things to see and do?

If the plane leaves sunday afternoon, you'd probably go downtown twice from the airport, once on Saturday afternoon and once on Sunday morning.

the Sheraton Center, downtown, is as good a hotel as any, if you ar thinking about Sheratons. But there are lots of hotels: Hilton, Marriott Eaton Centre, Holiday Inn on King, Le Germain (smaller), Intercontinetal on King, all in the middle of interesting areas where you can push a stroller and see interesting things.

Saturday night might be a write-off, with the time changes.

Sunday morning you could visit the CN Tower, the Hockey Hall of Fame if this appeals, walk down Harbourfront, push the stroller over to The Distillery District, stroll through Chinatown, go for a ride on the subway.

It's not a great 24 hours; arriving in the afternoon with six hours of time zone difference to throw you off, and then really having a Sunday morning and early afternoon free, considering sunday mornings are pretty quiet almost everywhere in the world.

Five good things while with a baby: CN Tower, harbourfront, Distillery District, walk through Chinatown and Kensington Market, vist the Eaton Centre (giant downtown indoor mall open on sundays)

And, the Sunday that you will be there is Easter Sunday...
Agree w/ BAK that you shd stay downtown. The Sheraton @ terminal 3 is fine (I stay there a lot) but only if you are leaving early the next morning. To stay @ The Sheraton in Terminal 3 makes no sense at all if you want to spend most of your Saturday (whatever is left of it) & Sunday in D/T To. I have friends who have little kidswho enjoy the Holiday Inn on King mentioned by BAK. It puts you right D/T for strolls on Sunday morning & brunch but, as mentioned, it will be a quiet Sunday AM b/c it is Easter.

I agree with everything Bak has said...staying downtown would probably work out better.

I agree, downtonw would be better. But if you really want to stay out by the airport, then the Sheraton would probably be the best. At least it's right at the airport.
Most of the airport area hotels are not near anything to see and do, so you really would have to get downtown. Might as well go down once and stay there overnight.

See CN Tower, Eaton Centre for shopping, Distillery area, and I'd hit the area around Yonge and Bloor for some nicer shopping and along to Avenue Road. and Queens Quay, Harbourfront.

Have fun.
