What to do in Australia
We're planning to visit Australia for a month and would appreciate some suggestions of things we 'must' do! We have family in Melbourne and at Evans Point but other than that we would love ideas please.
We want to tour but in reasonable comfort, although at affordable prices. We're in our early 50s but fit, health and young in mind and spirit, we like city visits but also love
the outdoor life. We'll probably need to go in July/August.
Any and all ideas for our trip gratefully received
Thanks

It depends on your interests, but the three signature destinations are Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, and Uluru. July / August is a good time to venture to the Top End, for Kakadu and perhaps Arnhem Land, if you like the outdoors and Aboriginal culture.

That sounds like a good mix and gives us something to start researching. I don't see the point in travelling so far ad not trying to understand the Aboriginal culture so we'll certainly take Arnhem Land as a suggestion, I think Sydney is a must and so is the Barrier Reef as well. Thanks very much.

Your post doesn't give a lot to go on -
Are you looking for a Tour, escorted, all inclusive, on a coach
Or are you thinking about renting a car & driving yourselves - either in Victoria, or as part of Fly/drive visits to other States.?
Tripplanner has given you the Top Choices for most tourists on 3-4 week trips.
If you read up on what's available & overlay that with what piques your interest & available time, you will be able to come up with a rough itinerary.
That's where we fellow-travellers can be of most help, giving tips on routes, places of interest etc, within your framework.
By & large we are independent travellers, so may not have a great deal of first hand information on group tours.
Australia is a very easy country to tour independently, flying between major centres & renting a car there to explore the surrounding areas works best.
You don't need a car in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane CBD. On the other hand, it's very useful to have one in Canberra.
As you will be in Melbourne, the Tourist Information Centre in Federation Square is a great resource.
It helps to include AUD budget ranges for accommodation -"reasonable" can be many things to many people.
www.wotif.com.au will give you an idea of properties, locations & prices.

Since you'll be in Melbourne don't miss the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. These are both easily accessed from Melbourne. I also loved seeing the penguins at Phillips Island -- a day trip from Melbourne.

The William Ricketts Sanctuary & Dandenongs are well worth a day trip from Melbourne.
