Toucan2 in Sydney December 31--mini GTG anyone?
I can't remember what thread we talked about this so am starting up a new thread.
Now that we are closer to our trip I know much more about our schedule while down around Sydney. It's not ideal, but it looks like about the only time I can get together is on December 31--breakfast? brunch? Lunch? I have a party that night.
We will be in Nabiac, returning to Sydney the evening of the 30th, then after the 31st we are going to head down to the Capertee for one or two nights, and DH wants to spend a day at Royal National Park. Then we leave the 4th! Time is going to fly.
Like I said, I know this is not ideal, but I would love to meet some of you Fodorites down under. Let me know.

This is your other thread where we discussed it. I'd love to get together on December 31. The only possible problem is that access to some areas is difficult due to road closures for NYE celebrations. Are you staying in the city or with friends. If you are staying with friends perhaps we can head in that direction.
Brunch would be good.

Darn it Margo.
I will be staying in Pyrmont. So I can easily walk over to the CBD, the Rocks, Circular Key, Darling Harbour...whatever you tell me to do, really! Brunch sounds great.
It will be so exciting to meet you!

I'm trying to think of venues at Circular Quay with a view. Anyone got any ideas? One possibility is the cafe in the Museum of Contemporary Art (George st), it's on the top floor and has great views of the harbour.

Looks good Susan, and it's open from 10am. It's easily accessible, has great views as you say, not the National Debt and I can see plenty of things I'd choose on the menu.
The only possible downside I can see is that they don't take reservations in the cafe.

Sydney Cove Oyster Bar does breakfast 9- 11:30, takes bookings and would let us linger. Their lunch service starts at 12 & they just do drinks 11:30 - 12.

I think the MCA is the standout for venue & there are quite a few tables, so I think we should be ok.
I just threw in the Oyster Bar in case we thought we should go somewhere we can reserve.
What does everyone else think? And what time do you think? I was thinking perhaps 10-10:30 start, but am flexible.

Oh, the MCA looks lovely!
I think 10 or 10:30 would be good as well. That way if people have New Year's plans or preparations they won't feel rushed.
But I will rely on you all to know whether we should have reservations or not.
