Tell me about rain in Brisbane

Yes, my friend could probably look this up for herself, but she asked me to help and now I am asking you

When rain is in the forecast for the Brisbane area (as it is for this coming week) is the rain typical of Seattle-style rain, that is, you'll have gray skies and rain all day? Or is it a more tropical style rain? That is, it's always forecast, but it rains a short period and then is done with it?

My experience of Brisbane is that it can be either style of rain. In summer, it often rains in the afternoon sub-tropical style, but there have been low pressure systems off the coast this summer causing more sustained rain.

Best thing would be to look at a synoptic chart which might help sort out which style of rain will be about next week http://www.weatherzone.com.au/synoptic/

Both ;-)

Rain forecast today and its very overcast but quite 'bright', showers are coming and going.

BUT if they forecast a storm..........that’s another issue, batten down the hatches.

Here are three more links your friend might find useful. It seems to me that while there is a chance of heavy rain in the afternoons it is likely that your friend will be getting showers on and off over the coming week.

PS Did you draw Steve's attention to the video link I posted about the Golden Bowerbird feeding from its cache?

Hi Alan, yes, I sent it to him right away. He enjoyed it too. (You realize that sending it to him means that I was sitting in a chair adjacent to him on my laptop, and emailed it to him so he could look at it on his laptop).

Now, as it turns out, she is actually going on to Port Douglas, so Brisbane didn't really matter at all. But thank you all as always for getting back to me so quickly. I didn't quite trust the www.weather.com site since it had so little detailed information.
