Renting a Van

I need to rent a van in NZ for a group of eight + luggage for about three weeks. I plan to pick it up in Aukland and return it to Queenstown.

Suggestions for rental companies?

Thanks in advance

You could try Hertz.

There are several companies around though. Google will be able to give you a list of some you could contact.

Some companies don't let you take their cars across in the ferry to south island though.. you need to look out for that.

When we were in NZ in 2004, Maui paid for a one-way vehicle ferry crossing for people renting for 10 days or more. We would have had to pay the foot passenger fee. Check to see if that deal is still available.

We were a group of 8 traveling (4 adults 4 adult kids 19-23). We rented a car and a van (Camry & Previa) and had plenty of room for everything. It worked well to have a van to haul all the peeps to one place w/o luggage, or a smaller car if just 2 of us went someplace. Kept in contact via two way radios and it worked great. Used Avis, however we picked up in Christchurch left the car in Picton, and picked up another in Wellington dropped in Auckland. If you're getting one vehicle my only advice is "pack light".

Hi, you could try 'About New Zealand Rental Cars' as they have vans and luggage trailers and you can take it all on the ferry or they have depots in Wellington/Picton but it depends if you want to unload and repack into another vehicle or whether you would rather just drive on and drive off the ferry, but you have to pay ferry costs for the vehicle.
Have a great trip!!!
