New Zealand Accommodations
I have received such great help from this forum. Our planning for New Zealand is almost complete. I just booked with The Crofts in Te Anau, a recommendation from this forum. Would like to find something special in Queenstown and Wanaka. May also need a place to stay in the Haast Pass area. Any names of hotels or B & B in those areas would be much appreciated.

Glad you got in at the Croft, great place. Give the kitties a pat for me.
Queenstown - We like Villa del Lago, although it's been a few years since we've stayed there. As light sleepers we've had trouble finding quiet accommodation in QT - Villa del Lago is very quiet and comfortable with units facing the lake. It's s short drive or an easy level walk alongside the lake to town (parking is a problem in QT, best to walk if you can).

In Wanaka I can highly recommend Clearbrook Apartments - an easy three minute stroll from town, really well located.

We also enjoyed our stay at the Alpine View Lodge - it's outside of town, very peaceful and quiet.

In Franz Josef I can recommend Glen Fern Villas, which are a short drive out of town.

58 on Cron is a great option too - a motel right in town on a quiet street directly across from the hot pools.

Not many options in Haast - we stayed there once years ago - I'll try to locate the name of the place and post back.

Here are the places we stayed:
Franz Josef--Punga Grove Motel--Quiet, good location close to town, backs onto a rainforest
Wanaka--The Moorings--nice accommodations, close to town, views of the lake

Here's my two penn'oth :
in Queenstown we stayed in Villa del Largo and like Melnq8 we liked it a lot - nice quiet position overlooking the lake and great facilities, including a lovely fire that was very useful in the unseasonably cold summer weather, [though too far to walk into town if that's what you like doing]
in Wanaka we can strongly recommend the Criffel Peaks B&B - an exceptional B& with terrific hosts and great views which after 3 nights we were very sorry to leave.
