Jarryd Hayne: Is the story as huge in OZ as the American papers say it is?
All the Northern California papers/media outlets are saying Jarryd Hayne making the 49er roster is huge HUGE news in Australia. True, or mostly hype by Niner media/fans?
Would it be comparable to say an NBA super star (Shaq/Kobe/Michael in their days - LeBron now) jumping to a different sport and succeeding?
It is a feel good story here in for sure and from what I've heard so far he seems to be a great guy. (I'm a huge Niner fan -- even went see them play a Wembley a couple of years ago)

I don't follow sport at all and even I've heard about him, so I guess it's pretty big news. Australians tend to take anything about sport very seriously and you can see why, when nothing else of importance ever happens in the world.

Yes janis it is BIG news here . I watch and follow lots of sport and even though our state only has one national rugby league team and its an Australian Rules Football state Jarryd has been talked about on every sport show and in the news- articles in the paper etc.
Jarred won twice the best and fairest annual award in the National Rugby league competition .
