How to score discount domestic air tickets in Australia?

Hi,

Guidebooks I've read said Qantas and some Aussie airlines offer discounts on domestic fares to foreign travelers, but I wasn't able to find any of such deal.

I know it's kinda close to the date, but I'm trying to find a flight between Sydney to Cairns in early to mid July, but they're quite expensive.

Anyone know how to scre the lower fares? Any promotional codes on domestic airlines you know of?

Thank you!

JC - do you use Skyscanner to search for flights ? I found Sydney - Cairns direct on random date 11 July for $131, which I don't consider expensive for a 3 hour flight.

The special deals are best received by signing up to the airlines website email offers, but you might have missed the boat time wise for that. Usually the best discounts are a few months out.

That flight I found was on budget airline Tiger, so luggage is probably extra.

Good luck.

thanks for the SkyScanner. It seems to be really good, but my concern is it directs you to all kind of weird booking websites that I've never heard of, with prices lower than what the airline websites are offering. Are they reliable and for real?

Have you booked anything with them yourself?

Thanks

I've used Skyscanner a lot, but I don't use any 3rd party sites. I had a bad experience with Bravofly, eventually got my money back, but loads of angst during the process.

My method is to check Skyscanner first, select the fare I want, make a note of the airline, and see where the link to purchase it goes. Often you go straight to the airlines website. If I'm redirected to a 3rd party, then I will check the airlines website. So far for me the airlines have matched the 3rd party.

When I had my big drama with Bravofly, in frustration I contacted Skyscanner. They were very helpful in trying to sort out the issue. I now always find my flights with them.

Good luck with the search.....
