How to get tickets to the Australian Open in January 2012

My husband and I will be in Australia next January (2012). We were thinking we would like to go to one or two tennis matches during the Australian Open in Melbourne. It seems it is fully sold out already - any suggestions as to how to obtain tickets?? We can buy a whole travel package but as we're already going to be there, we don't need that. Any advice would be appreciated.

It won't be sold out already. I think that what is happening is that, in fact, general ticket sales haven't started yet and won't for months. Generally I don't buy tickets until November.

If it is showing up as sold out I suggest that would be because it is actually coming up with this January dates, been and gone, or because they system is not set up to buy tickets so far in advance. I've often noticed that when I look at hotels for some months in advance it comes up as "booked out" when in fact it simply means you can't book that far ahead.

I just had a quick look at the Australian Open site and see that for the Open just gone it said ticket sales opened in October 2010 so it would be probably be the same this year. Perhaps there is a section on either the Australian Open or the Ticketek site where you input your email address for updates.

Hi Jranger,
You could always pre-register here:

I'm sure there will be other deals on offer closer to the Open. Some of the hotel loyalty clubs had some good ones last year.

I can't wait to go the Australian Open 2012 ! I went last year and had one of the best times with my friends. Being able to watch Djokovic and Clijsters take the wins was amazing and having the opportunity to see parts of Australia at the same time was a great experience. A great place to check out if you need help with this is http://www.travelswithsoha.com/australian-open.html
