Help needed on Itineary - September - 12 Days

Jump to last reply

Hi , We are from Bangalore (India) , planning a trip to NZ in September flying in on 29th Aug and flying out on 9th Sep from Auckland. We wish to cover both North and South island , spending more time in South.
On the adventure list , tandem jump in skydiving is a must. Would like to know the best place ( both experiencer and value for money) for skydiving keeping the weather at this time of the year into account. Understanding time is short , we have ruled out Bay of Islands and Rotorua and tried to put together the below itineary, Please help us advise if we are going too optimistic and if we need to cut down a bit.

Day 1 - Arrive in Auckland - late evening - enjoy the night life, eat drink and merry :)
Day 2 - Explore Auckland - Beaches / Wineyards - leave for Coromandel.
Day 3 - Explore Hot water beaches in Coromondel and leave for Lake Taupo.
Day 4 - Skydiving in Taupo - leave for Wellington via Napier and Hastings
Day 5 - Arrive in Wellington - Explore the art , cafe and coffee culture.
Day 6 - Leave for South Island - Abel Tasman National Park - Explore serene beaches , maybe a kayaking tour.
Day 7 - Leave for Lake tekapo via West Coast, explore Central Otago and Mt. Cook.
Day 8- Leave for Queenstown via Wanaka.
Day 9 - Explore Queenstown - Food, Adventure Activity , Nightlife,
Day 10 - Leave for Milford Sound - experience the magic.
Day 11 - Return to Queenstown - spend more time exploring the city.
Day 12 - Fly back to auckland .

I am not sure if Coromandel is the right choice in this season or should we take the route via Waitomo caves spending some time in Tongariro alpine crossing.
Another thing that we wanted to know was if renting a car will be a better option for this itineary and is it possible to rent a car for only one way since we are flying back from Queenstown to Auckland.

Looking forward for all your help
