Getting to Fraser Island !!
I am in the midst of ironing out some details for out Oz trip end of the moneth and we're desperately trying to fit Fraser island into our Oz itinerary but from what it seems, it is hard to fly direct to hervey bay from other cities?
Does anyone here have info as to how we can get to hervey bay by plane? I see that most ppl will drive up from brisbane but our time is very limited.
our two possible options would be:
1. fly from sydney to Hervey Bay then from Hervey Bay to the whitsundays.
2. fly from the whitsundays to Hervey and then from hervey bay to sydney.
Any help on how to do acheive this in the most logical and uncomplicated way would be most appreciated!
And if the above is simply not feasible, what are some alternatives?
THANK YOU!

The only way to fly to HVB is with Sunshine Express ex BNE. I would suggest you book a one way fare SYD/BNE then a return BNE/HVB/BNE and then a one way fare BNE/Proserpine or Hamilton Island. Fares for BNE/HVB are around $120 each way.(Flying time is between 50 mins to an hour). Check out www.sunshineexpress.com.au for web pricing. They are also aligned with Qantas so your connections will probably be better with Qantas/Jetstar than Virgin. Hope this info helps. If doing a tour to Fraser then try for a 2 day or self drive as you really don't see enough in just the day.

Chunker, from Hervey Bay, you have to fly with Sunshine Express (as Fraser01 stated)down to Brisbane, where you can connect with a jet to Hamilton Island or Cairns, or wherever.
You can use Qantas frequent flyer points with Sunshine Express, and also book your luggage all the way through if using both airlines, to your destination.
Sunshine Airline uses an Irish built plane called, Short, noisy little thing, but quite enjoyable, flys at 9,000 feet, allowing good visibility of the countryside. We call the plane, the "Flying Bus"...if you get a chance to fly with them, you will understand.
Its quite charming to see the Pilot before departing on early morning flights out of Hervey Bay (the plane stays there overnight, and gets a bit of dew on the windows), throwing a bucket of water onto the pilot's windows, then wiping it with a brush(something not seen by a jet pilot)
Just to give you an idea of their itinerary. Brisbane to Hervey Bay - Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday & Friday - Depts Brisbane 8:35am, 11:50am, 3:25pm, and 6:25pm.
Then Hervey Bay to Brisbane - Monday to friday, departs H/Bay 6:45am, 10:10am, 1:35pm, and 4:40pm. There are approx. 3 flights on Saturday & Sunday.
The flights to & from Brisbane, take approx. 1 hr & 15 minutes, stopping at Maryborough enroute (quaint airport terminal). At Brisbane Domestic Terminal, Sunshine Express docks near the Qantas Terminal, with a short walk to their various gates, to your onward journey in Qld.
I have flown with Sunshine Express now on 3 occasions, and enjoyed the flight each time, with great Qantas connections in Brisbane airport.
