Does anyone know if Four Points Sheraton in Sydney is in a good location for travelers who will be relying on public transportation and walking? Is it in the Central Business District?

Four Points Sheraton is in Sussex Street (had to look it up!)<BR><BR>So - it's close to Darling Harbour, a particularly touristy venue, and Chinatown. It's on the edge of the CBD, but a fair way from the Circular Quay area, ferries, etc. (probably abour a mile or more). It depends on what you want to do, walk to, catch public transport to. The nearest train station, and bus stops, at Town Hall, are about 500 yards walk, uphill.

I lived in this hotel last June and found it conveniently located, particularly it links to a walking bridge that takes only 10 minutes walk to Darling Harbour, and from there you walk to Star City, Fish market, if you don¡¦t mind walking. And shopping mall and shops are only 10 to 20 minutes away. Yes, it¡¦s a bit far away from Circular Quay and Rocks, but it takes around 30 minutes to walk to the Circular Quay, or you could take a taxi at night, it won¡¦t too pricey. Four points is comparatively good for your money. You should expect to pay more for hotels near Circular Quay, Rocks or business areas.<BR><BR>Daisy<BR>

Hi, Nack!<BR>I wouldn't consider the Four Points very well-placed at all, and would suggest that unless you are getting a terrific bargain, you could do better. Sussex Street is gloomy and narrow, and after dark there's nothing happening down there. The one advantage is that it's close to the George St entertainment strip -- if, indeed, that can be seen as an advantage. As a previous poster said, as you get closer to the harbour, the prices go up, but if you are staying down that way to save money, take a look at such hotels as the Central Park, the New Windsor, the Waldorf, and the Park Regis, all of which are budget and better placed.<BR>However, my main beef with the Four Points is that I think their advertising is misleading... some time ago a poster wrote in, very excited, having been offered a room there with a Harbour View at a far cheaper price than the competition (such as the Marriott/Renaissance or the Hyatt). I suggested he get them to spell out exactly what the &quot;harbour view&quot; was, and, of course, it isn't Sydney Harbour, with the Bridge and the Opera House, at all, but Darling Harbour, with its freeway overpasses and the convention centre (he ended up staying at the nearby Waldorf). I really don't think the Four Points should indulge in this kind of advertising, as surely the bit of extra money they make from the bookings they get will quickly be negated in the light of the disappointment (and subsequent bad-mouthing)the traveller will feel when he sees that, instead of the blue waters and white sailing ships he had been led to expect, he is looking at the freeway/factory belt of the inner western suburbs. So, with this hotel.... look before you buy!

Hi Nack, I agree with Alan that this wouldn't be my choice of hotel. Darling Harbour is nice enough in its own right,but there are nicer places to stay for the same or cheaper price. I found the Four Points a bit run down and the service wasn't all it could be.<BR><BR>Try wotif or lastminute and you should be able to get a good deal on Quay West suites - much closer to everything, and with views of the &quot;right&quot; harbour.

We really enjoyed the 4points on Darling Harbor. It is practically next door to the maritime museum and the aquarium. Didn`t find it run down at all, and had a great view of the harbor. We just hopped on the ferries and went wherever we wanted. Also, took the buses. We did get the three day explorer pass, so we could use the ferries and buses.

I agree with Pat. We stayed our first 4 days in the CBD Sydney Hilton (before it closed for remodeling back in October)<BR><BR>So we got to see that side of town...<BR>then we spent our last 3 days at the end of our 2 week honeymoon at the 4pts on Darling Harbour. I was never misled I knew its location was Darling Harbour and had no visions of grandeur! Our Harbour view room was high enough up on the floors to be above the street level. <BR><BR>We easily got around on the ferries between Darling and Circular Quay. And one night we even walked from the Quay back to the hotel and it was quite late. It wasn't a bad walk at all--and I am out of shape and over weight so I can say that honestly. <BR><BR>You can take the monorail (albeit not the cheapest way around town but a different one) and we used it with a combo ticket to see the Powerhouse Museum which had a Star Wars show at the time. <BR><BR>It gave us the opportunity to see a different area of Sydney.<BR><BR>I found it to be very clean and tastefully decorated. Beiges/blacks, B&amp;W photos,....nothing floral or foo foo that a lot of hotels think people like.<BR><BR><BR><BR>
