Fiji vs. Tahiti?

My boyfriend really wants to go to Tahiti and stay at the Vahine Island Resort and then head to Bora Bora. I am interested in Tahiti, but have heard good things about Fiji. We are both pretty savvy travelers and looking for a truly wonderful & romantic experience. Interested in an upscale holiday with great beaches, snorkeling and hopefully kayaking. Any feedback on Vahine Resort or which locations you could suggest? Thanks!

I did not know where Vahine Island Resort was located. We are familiar with Tahaa, Bora Bora and Raiatea but the Vahine Island Resort was not there the last time we were in the area. I looked at the rate sheet. For what it is and where it is it is WOW. You will not find anything in Bora Bora in that price range for what it is. If he wants to go to Vahine and it footing bill--go for it. If you are paying half it is ok or you pay for Vahine and he pays for Bora Bora. Either settle on one place or another . It is not easy to go from Tahiti to Fiji. However expect the place to be very small and you may eat a lot of fish. The food is excellent in either Tahiti or Fiji. The real question is, why don't you want to go to Tahiti? Go there this time and next time go to Fiji. There is a lot of difference between the places if you don't go to the large resorts. Vahine is off the beaten path. I remember looking at the school children in Tahaa.

This is me again. I just looked at this again. If you really mean up scale and want to spend $700 up a night in either Bora Bora or Fiji, that is a different story. By the way Kayaking in not what I have seen much of at either Tahiti or Fiji. You have outriggers in Tahiti. Beware of currents in Fiji. Great beaches and great snorkeling do not go together. You need rocks and coral for plant and sea life. Sandy bottoms are like the desert. You have to be very still and quiet to find and see anything.
