Fiji vs. French Polynesia
We have been to Bora Bora and Moorea and absolutely loved it. How would you compare Fiji?
I realize this is a rather broad question, but any comparsions noted would be appreciated. Especially the turquiose water, sand, and luxury type hotels. (particularly OTW bungalows)
We would be flying from LAX. From what I can tell, there isn't a big diference in flight time.???

katie,
I have been to both destinations and enjoyed both places very much. Have been to FP twice, once on a small cruise ship and the other a land based holiday. For our trip to Fiji, we arrived in Nadi on the main island and then transferred to a small plane for a 25 min. ride that took us to the Yasawa Island chain and we stayed at the Yasawa Island Resort. It's a small island that is still relatively untouched by civilization with the exception of the one small intimate luxury resort. Take a look at them on the net.
It was a wonderful time there however I don't recall the waters being as blue etc. as you find in FP but the area is beautiful none the less. The local people were very friendly and gracious, definitely the most wonderful that we have experienced at any tropical destination. We also experienced excellent service at the resort with good food and accommodations in individual beach bures steps away from the water. This is a wonderful destination for a very relaxing vacation. We also spent a few days on the main island at the Sheraton Resort but I would not bother for a second time. It's much like spending time on Tahiti as opposed to the outer islands altho Nadi is a much smaller town than Papeete. We didn't travel to Suva on the otherside which is the largest town.
If you are looking for ultimate luxury you might want to take a look at the new Katafanga Resort which is on an even smaller private island but much farther away from Nadi, closer to a 4 hr. flight. This will be our next destination for a trip back to Fiji.
