Yes, there are ATMs in the Cooks, and credit cards (which I recommend) are accepted in most places. You can exchange some CDN$ for NZ$ at the airport in Raro. Have a great time -- the Cooks are beautiful, and your vacation there should be quite relaxing.

We have some friends who holidayed there recently. The Cooks use the New Zealand dollar, they also have some Cook Island money which I think is being phased out and has a sort of souvenir value.
Kay

I envy you. We spent 3 weeks there and loved every moment. We took some New Zealand dollars and the rest in Canadian travellers cheques and had no problem at all. We just went to the bank as needed. Just check the hours of the bank so you hit it at the right time. On Saturdays at the market the bank has a small building to do any banking you may require. We did very little shopping, but the black pearls are lovely. Enjoy!!! Wendy
PS If you can go to the church of your choice on Sunday if for nothing more to listen to the wonderful singing. It still send chills down my spine just thinking about it.
