ARIA Restaurant-Sydney

Has anyone ever dined here before? If so, do you know if they have a website so I don't have to call long distance from the U.S.?

Hi Gail,

Yes, have dined here. IMO, the ambience (warm, cosy with a modern feel), service (waiters were extremely polished) and food was good. Have tried their cod, pasta and lamb. Definitely above average. It has a great view of the harbour and is just across the street from the Opera House, which was convenient.

Thanks so much for your feedbacks!!!! We do like good food when we travel. I try to avoid tourist traps. Unfortunately (and surprisingly), there is no ZAGAT GUIDE for Sydney.

We ate there 18 months ago and thought it was excellent. In fact, it was our best meal in Sydney. Great wine list, too. Beautiful harbor view.

I'm still boycotting those restaurants in those buildings leading down to the Opera House.
Thye should not have been allowed to build there

Plenty of great restaurants in Sydney

margo oz...I have to say I felt the same as you when the original plans were announced..I could not believe it!However I am now eating humble pie. I still feel that the views of Opera House have (to say the least) been compromised but the area has come alive and the walk through the colonade is great. I suspect you don't agree but we are stuck with it now so lets accept it. Cheers!

What was there before? Did the Gardens/Park go right down to the water?

No but the view of them was better. There was a full view of the Opera House icon from Circular Quay (now completely obliterated until you are right on it...although when it finally hits you it is quite spectacular). There was a lot of protest but as usual the developers won out.I still mourn what was there before but I have to say they have done a good job and visitors will not know the difference.

PeterAlan,

I beg to differ. Visitors can image what the views and outlook were before the Toasters were built and can perceive the difference.

Its unfortunate that if something had to be built to obscure the view of the Oper a House from the quay that some one from the very impressive pool of contemporary Australian architects wasn't chosen.

It was disappointing to me that most of the newer buildings near the Circular Quay area are so banal, again given the large pool of talented contemporary architects down under

A/D

Well said AD

Maintain the boycott - they are very ordinary buildings!

Just another opinion from a recent tourist (who, admittedly, didn't see the area before the colonnade was built).
I loved the entire Circular Quay area, and very much enjoyed the walk to the opera house in the evening. After a concert at the opera house, we enjoyed a an outdoor meal at one of the restaurants along the quay (I don't remember the name; not Aria, but one or two closer to the opera house). Not a gourmet meal, but a gourmet experience, enjoying the view of the city and the bridge over drinks and dinner.
I believe that these shops and restaurants, while not necessarily enhancing the view, certainly enhance the experience, and allow for a complete evening's entertainment with a short walk from many hotels.
