Area to stay in Queenstown

We will be in QT for 3 nights with a car. Any recommendations as to the area to stay - any advantage to staying in the city rather than just out of town along the shore. How is driving around? Parking? Thanks

I believe Queenstown is a bit pricey now, and more touristy than ever, but its still a nice town, with great scenery. Where to stay will depend on your budget.

To be more specific - Is there any advantage of staying in the city center or on the outskirts?

If you have a car stay wherever you want. Nothing is very far away.

I stayed up the hill a bit and when it was nice we were able to walk to town and there are regularly tourist buses that do the main hotels/hostels. At least once an hour - good if you are not in a hurry.

Driving was easy. But you need to be careful of the tourists who may accidentally drive on the wrong side of the road andcan drive roundabouts! Down south is the only part of NZ that has arrows on the road to make sure they go the right way!!!

Parking is so-so - we always found one eventually. If you are just spending the day in the city leave your car at the hotel and walk to bus in. Just to avoid hassle. I mean, it is not really a large town and centrally is fairly compact.

As a follow-up, we stayed at The Point, which was about a mile outside of town. I suspect it was a good decision. We drove into town, and always found parking within waking distance from the center.
