Why go to Uluru/Alice Springs?

We're planning a trip to Oz in December - and in this board Uluru and Alice Springs seems to be on every suggested itenary. What's there to see in these places and how much time do you recommend there.

Perhaps it may be better if you do some reading/ research first and then ask specifics. It is not our place to "persuade" people to do one thing or another, we don't know you or what you like.
See you later!

Please keep in mind when planning your trip that it will be Summer over here in December and temperatures at places such as Uluru and Alice Springs will be extremely hot.

Under no circumstances do you go to uluru in the summer in australia. Either the bugs will kill you or the heat will. We went two weeks ago and it was delightful. IT was about 40 degrees fareignheit when we woke up and rose to 65. Uluru is amazing when the sun hits it. It actually does glow. ALice sprins was nice as well as was kings canyon. The hot air balloon ride and the take a camel to dinner ride in alice springs was the highlight of our trip along with the daintree air plane ride to lizard island and the snorkling on the reef at lizard. We visited end-November and on arrival in Alice Springs the temp was 110 degrees (but dry, but still HOT).

Luckily right before we flew next morning to Uluru, there had been a rain-storm which cooled the air by about 40 degrees, so it was comfortable the first half of day at Uluru. By afternoon it was oppressive and all we could do was find someplace with a/c and cool off till our return flight.

Though our time in Alice/Uluru was only two-days and interesting/enjoyable, I would agree with "prue" that December is not an ideal time to visit here.
