Which Milford Sound cruise in late April? and, best place to stay in Auckland - bnb prefered.

Double question! We are staying in Te Anau and plan on driving to Milford Sound and can't decided what type or which boat to take for a cruise on the Sound. Any help appreciated.
And, trying to decide where to stay our last two nights in New Zealand in Auckland. Prefer a bed and breakfast or something similar. Lots to choose from, under $150NZ, help with recommendations! Sasi

Sasi,
We did an overnight cruise on the Milford Mariner, and we were extremely satisfied with the experience. We'd certainly recommend it.

We took the early morning cruise out of Milford Sound so as to avoid all of the "bus people" that arrive later in the day.

We drove from Te Anau also. Wait until you drive through the tunnel on your way to Milford Sound. The tunnel is beyond dark...it is total absence of light.

For a light meal in Te Anau, try the Olive Tree Cafe. They have great breakfasts, salads, pasta and pizza. Very reasonably priced.

If you want a real experience with out the crowds of tourists at Milford do the Doubtful Sound one. When in Te Anau ask at the information centre about the cruises on Doubtful Sound. Well worth it.

Greetings Sasi

I agree with Christine. We took the overnight Doubtful Sound cruise last April and loved it! We drove to Milford and back and would recommend that if you take the Doubtful Sound cruise.

The Doubtful Sound does not have near the visitors as Milford does. In fact we didn't see any other boats on our trip.

Can't give any advice on B&B's. We stayed at the Hilton which is very nice

Cheers

Just arrived from the most incredible trip to NZ. We stayed at The Great Ponsonby in Auckland, delightful!
