Which luxury resort for honeymoon?
 

Planning honeymoon in July 2009 and want to stay in a luxurious, secluded, romantic resort. Prefer to have a room with a private plunge pool or outside jacuzzi, great white sand beach, good snorkeling, service and food. Hopefully not a bunch of families with small kids. Don't really want to pay more than $1000 per night. I have seen Turtle Island and a couple of others but they are a few hundred dollars a night over $1000. Also is 7 nights a good number of nights or is that too long or short in one place? Please make some recommendations. ALSO is it better to book through a travel agent or directly with resort??

Fitzroy Island has been undergoing a huge redevelopment for a couple of years now, latest expected finish date December 2008 and they have beach front villas, no jacuzzi or plunge pool though.

They'll be fresh and new and as well as island activities, you may be able to get in to Cairns and back for some variation.

Some good beaches, snorkelling, sailing, kayaking and walks on the island.

flexcrac: you dont give any indication where you would prefer to go. Are you talking Australia or somewhere in the Pacific..Fiji, Tahiti, Cook Isles...or somewhere else?

Hayman Island would be my choice and 5 nights would be sufficient.

We just returned from a short stay at Hayman Island and it was magnificent.
There is very good snorkeling on the other side of the island, accessible by a hotel boat (for a fee). The beach is large and nice, although not quite white.
Just be aware that the tide is very low at certain times of the year, and certain water sports are available only pretty early in the morning.
Another attraction of the resort is its variety of restaurants.
The bungalows might have private jacuzzi, and the large pools are beautiful.

Sorry I forgot to mention where we were thinking about going. It was after midnight when I posted. Primarily thinking about Fiji or Cooks Islands. Any input would be great. For Cooks, looking at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort or Pacific Resort. A whole bunch in Fiji!
