which island do you recommend?

I would like to take my family to a South Pacific island in March. Which island would you recommend? We have been to Hawaii and Moorea, and would like to try something different. We have 3 teenage kids(17,15,13). We have thought about Fiji, Cook Islands, and Molokai in Hawaii, but cannot seem to decide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

March is the wet season in the South Pacific Islands and not recommended - the best time in these islands is during winter when the temp is around 26 - 28 degrees celcius and the weather is dry (Late May thru Oct), outside of this you are likely to get vicious tropical storms.

We just returned from Rarotonga & had to be evacuated from our hotel which was flooded from a flash flood due to torrential rains. They said it had never happened before & it was in the "dry" season! So there are no guarantees. The area is so beautiful though you can't have any regrets about going. Just adjust with the weather & enjoy!

The difference in the seasons is that you can be guaranteed to have tropical rain during the wet season - it s not worht the risk - a good pointer to this is that airfares, room rates etc are generally around 40% cheaper in the wet season. It is very , very, very unusual to have rain that floods during the dry season. For those of us that live in this part of the world we would not contemplate going to the islands around then unless there was no other option,
Rgds
Michael

I would NOT recommend Molokai with three teenage kids....I am from Hawaii and I can tell you that while Molokai is beautiful and unspoiled, there are few activities/shopping etc for tourists.

It is great if you want to really get away from it all, but with three teenagers I am afraid they may get restless.

If you want to go to Hawaii, may I recommend Kauai - it is beautiful, less congested than Oahu and Maui with plenty to do.....
