Having phoned Air NZ this morning, they have confirmed that in economy the allowance from UK to NZ is 20KG.
So Geordie if they are of that opinion who am I to argue? Maria, in Singapore a pair of flip flops, shorts and Tee shirts is sufficient. Its a very friendly place and very efficient in everything that is done there. The Health regulations means that eating at places like the outdoor Satay Club or Newtons Circus ( not sure that is the correct name even tho'I have been there every time I have been in Singapore) is safe, cheap and great fun not to mention very tasty. There are many terrific places to see, having breakfast with the Orangatangs at the zoo is wonderful. The Bird Park is excellant and shopping is wonderful. There is a hotel within the airport shopping area itself but as its only about 1/2 hr into the centre of Singapore it makes good sense to be able to have some time there to get over the first have of your journey and see some of the wonderful sights of that little country. |

I think I may be able to understand where your confusion lies. As you live in Australia and you are I assume phoning Air NZ in Australia. The agent may well be assuming (Incorrectly in this case) that one would be flying via Asia to get to NZ. That is codeshare on Singapore to Singapore then either Singapore or Air NZ down to NZ. If you do travel this route you allowance would be 20kgs. This is as per Singapore Airlines (And most every other airline going via Asia, once again I do realise there are exceptions). If you are going to travel with Air NZ via North America. That is Air NZ LHR-LAX-AKL or CHC or codeshare United to SFO then Air NZ through to NZ, your baggage allowance AFTER March 26 is 2 bags at no more than 23kgs EACH. Total 46KGs. approx 100lbs. This information is from the website, links and extracts provided above, and the lovely Maria at Air New Zealand sales call centre in Takapuna Auckland. Please can we put this one to bed and stop the disinformation. It is not helping the punters out there. All appears to be academic though as Singapore appears to be the option. Better than LA in my opinion, much nicer place to visit. I hope this clarifies the position once and for all. As an aside, I checked Qantas's allowance. they still have the 32 kg allowance per piece (max 2 pieces)between Australasia and North America. However their codeshare partner AA while allowing bags up to 32 kgs, charges a 25 USD per back "overweight" charge on each piece weighing more than 23 kgs. So if booking UK to NZ/AUS on these airlines it pay to be aware of potential charges. Once again. I hope this clarifies the position. |
