Where's your favorite island ?

My own favourite island has got to be Urupukapuka Island. Where is it ? It's located in New Zealand's Bay of Islands, and can be reached by an easy 45 minute day cruise from Paihia on the North Island.
Why is it my favourite ? Unspoilt, fantastic for easy bushwalking, and marvellous scenic views for photographers. Great fishing.
Zane Grey - the famous US author used this island as a base for deep sea fishing back in the last century.
Nowadays the island is a National Park. Well worth a visit. I took a photo after a short climb up Urupukapuka's hills. See this at

Sorry, not telling except to say that it is a small sand island on a rock bar in a remote river in northern Australia.
The island was (I haven't been there for decdes) about a hectare in size (2.5 acres). On the downstream side the bar was the limit of tidal activity even though it was all fresh water. to the north the sand dropped off steeply into a deep hole with a cliff of latterite on the far bank. The southern and eastern sides are covered in trees. Under these trees I have slept, speared and shot fish and spent some wonderful times camping with family and friends. Just thinking about it I can smell a fish cooking in the coals and the temperature seems to have risen above the cool Australian winter night.

Just so everyone knows, flixya is a site that pays the poster if someone clicks on their link.

I was wondering about that, mlgb. Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you for your replies to my post. The unknown Australian island sounds idyllic.
Just so everyone knows, Flixya doesn't pay out if you click on the actual link to the poster's photo. They only pay out to the photo's originator if one of the Adsense ads around the photo is clicked.
And there is no compulsion whatsoever to do this.
