Where to see big Kauri Trees

Anyone know where to see big Kauri Trees?

I believe they are only (or more common) on the NI, but supposedly are bigger the further north you go. Wondering if there are some not too far from Auckland?

Large Kauri Walk - Regional parks - Auckland Council
regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz › ... › Cascade Kauri

Large Kauri Walk is located in Cascade Kauri regional park. About ... Short walk. From Scenic Drive, this is an easy, short walk to large kauri of 7m in girth

Will you have a car? Some of these places are hard to reach by public transport.

Melnq8 for some reason I can't post the URL from the NZ Herald for this story. Do a Google search for "Titirangi kauri tree 'viciously' attacked" Awful.

Yes we will have a car. The Cascade Kauri walk in the Waitakere Ranges looks great as I was thinking we would go there anyway.

But I sure would love to go north to The Kauri Walk to see The Lord of The Forest! Looks like it's a 3+ hr drive from Auckland Airport.

What else of interest is in that area?

Lord of the Forest is Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest. This is just north of Dargaville on the west coast of the North Island and about 3 hours drive from Auckland Airport. Dargaville is a small ordinary NZ town fine for a 1 night stay while you look at the forest. Bayly's Beach is worth a look. This area is called the Kauri Coast.

If you really want to go there then do it. I have commented on your other post about base towns for exploring but Dargaville is not well located for day trips.
Tane Mahuta could be a day trip from Paihia if you wanted to see some of Northland. Throw it in the mix and see what you think. Auckland Airport to Paihia is about 3 hours - stay 1 night there and explore. Day 2 over to Waipoua (about 1.5 hours)stay the night in Dargaville and then back to Auckland.
Auckland Motorway clogs up every morning and night with commuters so if you are rushing to get a flight plan your trip carefully. There is less traffic build up at the weekends.
