When to visit Great Barrier Reef

We were planning on going to Great Barrier Reef in Feb. 2015 but were told that this is the rainy season and can be iffy. When is the best time to go. Would March be better?

The best time to go to Far North Queensland (the GBR area) is between the months of May and October. (I love going in July, August and September.) The rest of the year you have to deal with cyclone season and/or stinger (deadly jellyfish) season.

March is better than February, but Cyclone Nathan is getting ready to make landfall in FNQ right now, so March isn't completely safe either.

Thank you for you reply. Looking to go to New Zealand (Queenstown, Napier and Auckland are on the same trip. Would October be a good time for those stops also?

October would be great for NZ - weather is warming up, yet it's still low season.
