What's open Christmas dinner in Port Douglas?
 

My wife and I will be in Port Douglas over Christmas and would love to get any recommendations for restaurants that will be open on Christmas eve, Christmas night and Boxing day.

Looking for something "modern Australian" (if that is the right phrase) for Christmas eve, as it is my wife's birthday, and hopefully something better than what I fear the chain hotel places will be offering on Christmas night. We really love seafood, but are open to other ideas, especially as options may be limited.

I have read good things about the Nautilus, but I think it is closed Christmas.

Also, any suggestions for good, but less expensive places for other meals in Port Douglas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some restaurants do a set Christmas lunch or dinner, so you would need to contact them individually to see who is doing what.

Actually, I saw the post about New Years Eve, but I saw that Nautilus, which you suggested, is closed on Christmas, and Sassi Cucina is aparantly now under new management, according to Tony Sassi's website (see url below).

Yes, Nautilus is definitely not opening on Christmas Day, neither is Catalina.

Suggest you contact Port Douglas Tourist Information Centre, local phone 4099 5599 a week before Christmas Day. They should know by then which restaurants will be opening, decision is made according to weather and how many tourists they figure will be in town. This will determine whether they can justify opening, and paying high penalty rates to staff.
