What to do outside of Melbourne?

I'll be in Melbourne with my 20 year old daughter for 2 weeks starting. We would like to leave Melbourne for 5 days starting on March 27th. Where should we go? My daughter loves horseback riding and I love bike riding. We don't want to drive if possible. We were considering a visit to New Zealand, however, it seems expensive and not enough time for only 5 days.

Besides horse and bike riding, what are your interests? You can do both of those in Melbourne.
Are you looking to do something like a tour, or are you thinking of going somewhere ( intrastate or interstate) for the 5 days?

I would love to get away from the city with my daughter - she's studying there and want to spend some quality time with her before I head home. A tour works provided it's affordable. Intrastate or interstate, either.
thks.

Google "visit Melbourne" and have a look at some of the regions surrounding it.
That will give you an idea of what's available.

What does your daughter want to do? If she's been studying here for a while, surely she would have some places on her wishlist.

Daylesford is a nice spa town with lovely surrounding area.

Daylesford is the spa capital of Victoria. Time for some serious mother-daughter bonding and R&R. Blow the budget and stay at the Lake House (and there are lots of other places). Eat at the Farmers Arms and the Mercato. Visit the Convent. Do some side day trips to Ballarat, Kyneton and Castlemaine. It's easy driving and perfect for a relaxing 5 day trip.

or ...
visit Phillip Island and spend a couple of days driving the Great Ocean Road -- then a couple of days in the Grampians.

My neck of the woods is lovely. Gippsland east of Melbourne. Beaches, mountians, lakes, bike trails.

The You Yangs national park near Geelong has mountain bike trails.

Victoria is quite compact and well serviced by trains if you want to visit the various parts.
