What to do in Australia?

Any ideas?

longhorn55 Jul 14th, 2011 09:34 AM

Really? You are asking us to give you ideas of what to do in Australia when there are scores of guidebooks, websites, blogs, etc. available with that information.

If you seriously want some help with an upcoming trip, you need to provide, at a minimum: 1) dates of trip, 2) number in party with ages, 3) interests and 4) budget.

Just asking for ideas of what to do in Australia is a waste of our time.

Seriously?

Welcome to Fodor's but if you want to be taken seriously show that respect too.

Think about how you would react to that question about your country or continent.

Here is a suggestion:

Good idea!

Gem2477 Jul 15th, 2011 07:37 AM

Alan, I would give some ideas of what to do in my country :)

Gem2477 Jul 15th, 2011 07:55 AM

Thanks Peter! That was helpful.

Glad to see you came back. We still know nothing of your interests though.

Visit Sydney for the sights and a bit of culture. Fly to Cairns

See the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns by doing a week long trip on a small boat. Then work your way inland over the Atherton Tablelands, Chillagoe, Undara, Georgetown to the Gulf of Carpentaria at Kurumba. Catch a coastal freighter back to Cairns and fly to Darwin.

There is a start. Tell us a little about want you enjoy seeing and doing and I'll amplify these suggestions and make many more.

I am not to particular, I just want to know what is out there and the best sites to see.

oliverandharry Jul 19th, 2011 10:01 AM

Well, it's a big country and bigger than the US. You are brand new here, so noone knows anything about you or what you would like. Even if you're not too particular, we assume you have preferences. Try putting some down and people here will help you, being mindful that noone here is a paid travel agent.

OK, here's a little video about Australia. Turn up your speakers & enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe2Ls...eature=related

Now, how about a link to your home country?

As Oliverandharry says; our country is bigger than most, with an equally diverse range of people, places and things to see and do.

But, if you really would like some help, rather than just throwing, "Any ideas?" at our feet like a dead fish; I respectfully suggest you invest some time, energy & courtesy in giving those whom you're asking some ideas yourself.

For example - an 18yo on a solo trip of 3 months is likely to be interested in different activities/sights/accommodation, to a 70 something couple, one of whom has ambulatory difficulties, on a 2 week trip.

I love that the opening image is a snake Bokhara.

When I decide to visit another country, I come to Fodors first and see what places people are talking about the most in that particular country (which is how I happened onto your post). After a certain amount of reading (a lot of reading -really), I find that I'm narrowing down the possibilities of what I can do and where I can go. Then it’s Barnes and Noble time, where I pick up a travel guide or two, maps and the like and once I feel I have a decent grasp of where I’d like to go what I think I’d like to see I start mapping the adventure. I keep my itinerary loose so that I’m not strapped to a watch and I let the adventure unfold. I would recommend that you do a lot more reading before you pose any more questions. Your first one was way out of bounds and you see the appropriate response you got. Not judging here, just giving some friendly advice.
