What to do for one afternoon & evening in Brisbane?

We are in Brisbane for only one afternoon and evening in between our stay in Cairns and out trip out to Heron Island. Would welcome suggestions for what to see/do during this brief visit in mid-November. Thanks.

Hi B&B,

I would suggest you take a cruise on the Brisbane River on one of our City Cats. They are very popular and a nice way to see the city.

A trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary would be nice also as you can hold a koala and hand feed kangaroos.

I would definitely recommend visiting Southbank Parklands where you can dine and enjoy some time strolling along the Brisbane River bank. The Kangaroo Point cliffs are beautifully lit at night and can be seen from Southbank.

If you are a chocoholic there is a Max Brenna's Chocolate Cafe at Southbank where you can get such things as chocolate pizza, beautiful chocolate fondue and of course, hot chocolate!

Mt. Coot-tha lookout is a popular spot for visitors but I'm not sure of your transportation situation. There is a restaurant at the lookout as well.

There are just so many dining options in Brisbane and it would depend on your tastes. We tend to favour small, al fresco, BYO bistros over silver service restaurants these days and so our suburbs have a plethora of such establishments.

The Norman Hotel at Woolloongabba will offer you one of the best steaks in town - it's a very popular place. Oxley's on the River would be a recommendation for a seafood restaurant.
But really, our suburban restaurants and pubs have really come a long way and offer fantastic food.

With so little time that's about all I can suggest B&B but let me know if you have any further queries.
Regards
Stormbird

Thanks so much, stormbird. I look forward to our afternoon and evening in Brisbane. Wish our trip were longer to afford more time there, but maybe we will go back someday.

I second the river cruise and Southbank stroling!

Close to The Stamford Plaze (former The Heritage) are very good restaurants and cafe`s. One Cafe has got a special cake "Death by Chocolate" which is to die for if you are a chocoholic ;-) sorry, I don't recollect the café's name.

I just loved that area and could have spent at least 2 days there.

Happy travels!
