What is Wanaka like?
How far from Queenstown and what is the winter weather like?
|
120km. Cool temparatures, and some rain. Snow at higher elevations above Wanaka.

I was in Wanaka last July. It wasn't warm but it was a lovely, quaint town with good shopping and restaurants. It was about 1.5 hours from Qtown. There are wineries on the way and the famous bungy jump, too near Qtown. What is it you want to do there? I thought for at least a day/night it was a great place to visit.

I'm planning on visiting a friend there and wonder if the weather is nice enough in June-August to play golf and hike. Or should I wait till later in the spring?
Thanks |
Very nice, scenic, expensive.
Puzzling World is great! |
I would recommend Wanaka as a side trip from Queenstown. As people stated wineries and some adventure stuff (canyoning) but besides that not a lot of stuff.
Crown Range road is scenic and entails some hair pin turns. It should take only about an hour. Agree that Puzzleworld is worth it - if you feel like testing your skills at the labyrinth. |
Hi Golfer,
I just returned last week from NZ and we stayed in Queenstown and drove to Wanaka. It takes about an hour and there are lots of wineries along the way. There are other sites to see like Roaring Meg, and the bungy jump bridge. It's very scenic along the main road which runs along the river. The war bird museum is there as well and Lake Hawea is also interesting to see and walk along. The weather was cool 40-50, but clear, but after we left the weather changed with rain and thunder showers. Check the weather conditions; golf is possible, but it depends on what time of the year you to plan to visit. Good luck, |
