What are the "Not-Be-Missed" Sights in ...
I leave in nine days -- and have finally locked down all the logistics of my month-long business & pleasure trip to NZ and Aus.
Now that I've stopped obsessing about hotels, rental cars, and flights, it's time to obsess about what to see when I get there! Also -- any favorite restaurants? We're not gourmet "foodies" and don't drink wine, but we enjoy unique, local dining experiences. We'll have (1) day off in Wellington (staying @ Comfort Hotel in CBD -- no car); (2) free days in Rotorua (staying at Sudima Hotel -- with a car) (3) full days (and a morning) free in Queenstown (staying at Oaks Shores; might have a car) (1) full day in Christchurch (Grand Chancellor Hotel in CBD -- no car) Our preferences are scenic views, beautiful walks (but not challenging hikes); spas; and relaxing -- as I have to be fresh for my high pressure business responsibilities. No interest in wines, "adventure" activities, or museums. I'll post a similar question re: Sydney. Thanks for your help. |
Do you like Indian food? If so, be sure to check out Little India in Queenstown and Christchurch.

While in Queenstown, a must see/do is rent a car and drive the road to Milford Sound. Absolutely amazing!!!

I know you're not interested in museums, but the section on Maori/Pakeha relations at Te Papa in Wellington is really interesting.
There are all kinds of walking paths along Mt. Victoria, and a very nice view of Wellington from the summit. We had a great breakfast at the Fat Dog in Rotorua. Dinner was at the hangi/concert at Whakarewarewa - it was fun and a nice way to try kumara and some other NZ foods. Mr. Pickle got up early the morning we were in Rotorua and walked along the lake and through Kuirau Park - nothing like seeing ash and steam spouting up from the ground! We both walked through the Government Gardens and watched the petanque players, which was nice. Lee Ann |
We spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Polynesian Spa in Rotorua.
There are several hot mineral pools and spa treatments are also available. |
