West Coast South Island road closure update
 

These roads closures could impact travelers visiting the South Island in the next couple of weeks. Those self-driving should check road conditions before traveling on the NZ Transportation website:

The road from Harihari to Franz Josef might remain closed for repairs until Christmas. Other road closures are expected to be cleared before then.

Because of the road closures 970 tourists tourists trapped in Franz Josef might have to remain there until Friday. Please note the West Coast is one of the wettest areas of the country.
