Well done Oprah!
Thought Oprah's show last night was pretty much on the money and still three more to go.
|
I didn't see it but it might be interesting to see how many of the Americans who post here, actually saw it in the US
I was reading that the she only gets about 7 million viewers in the US. It really could'nt have come at a worse time considering the floods and bushfires that we are facing. I was overseas last week and people thought most of the country was underwater. I did read that that Qantas are offering tickets from US to Australia for $960. I also saw that until I think tonight, Qantas have return fares from now until Dec (excl July Aug) for about AUD$940 to Dallas. |
Turned it on, heard three words repeated at top voice over and over and over and over by the host and guests and turned it off. Hope it can do some good for the ailing tourist industry which is up and ready to go in nearly all areas.

Well, this American saw it from Australia. I thought it was pretty well done, whooping and hollering aside. Nice scenery...looks like they had great weather.

I'm on the east coast of the US and have seen 2 of the 4 segments. Agree there was too much whooping & hollering at the beginning but it is making me want to start planning my third trip (even thou financially there is NO WAY I can do the third trip for another couple of years!) However, it has made a number of my friends start asking me lots of questions about Australia and how I planned my trips. In fact, one friend wants to watch all 4 segments and then she and I are getting together for coffee because she wants to see my pictures and pick my brain (her words). So, overall I think Oprah's show is making American's think about it.

That's a very good outcome for Australian tourism. I'm afraid I'm like Alan I can barely watch her.

I think the interesting thing is that with her personality, that is a bit over the top for many Aussies, she is making the scenic wonders of this country that we perhaps take for granted look very special and dare I say "gorgeous". Now that's not such a bad thing. Her flood relief efforts at this time are also very appropriate and did you know that she gave $250,000 to the Salvos for flood relief before she left. A few of the overpaid tennis stars that are here at the moment could certainly take a leaf out of her book.
