weather in july NZ and OZ

Am trying to pack and can't decide-ski jacket necessary? Long underwear? Going to Milford Sound, Queenstown (shotover jet boat ride), may try to ski a day as well as Sydney,Ayers Rock and Cairns. Don't want to freeze, yet don't want to pack bulky clothes if not necessary. Is Queenstown like Colorado ski weather in the winter (cold and windy 20-30 degrees F), or will a regular jacket suffice?
Thanks for your help!

Just saw your Qn.
Here's the site you need.

Just insert the appropriate town/city & you'll get all the info you need.

It's mid-winter here.

Cheers

Not sure about NZ but why dont you just hire a jacket whilst there. Sydney will be about 18-24C, Cairns a pleasant 25C and Uluru about 20C but is very cold in mornings and after dark due to desert location - layered clothing is best

Temperatures vary greatly in your destinations at that time of year. On South Island in July (we were there last year in July), typical high temperatures around Te Anau would be 8 C, with lows around 0 C (32 F). One day (our coldest) in Wanaka, the high temperature was 3 C (37 F), and the low about - 2 C (28 F). That was the night our campervan heater died - we had a cozy night to say the least.

I recommend you take a waterproof shell jacket and wear layers underneath. This arrangement gives far more flexibility than a full winter jacket, and would be suitable for most skiing.

I was in New Zealand in July 2003 and it was very, very cold. Definitely bring some light long underwear and a waterproof ski jacket. Sydney is not too bad at that time of the year, kind of like autumn in the US. I usually wear a sweater and a leather jacket. Definitely also bring a scarf and gloves.
