Weather in Australia in September
My fiancee & I are thinking of spending our honeymoon in Australia this September. What can we expect for weather in the different major cities?
|
Hi, Shirley!

I will let residents of other major cities speak for their own, but Sydney will be warm and mostly dry, with a couple of windy days. September was chosen for the Olympics in 2000 because, statistically, there was more chance of a dry opening and closing than in any other time of the year. For myself, I think the second half of September is nicer than the first.

I have a feeling all the subsequent posters will have nice things to say about the weather in their cities at this time of year: in Australia, the "in-between" seasons (April-May or September-October) are usually the ones to choose, as you escape the "extremes".

I spent 2 wks in Australia last Sep and found the weather to be quite good. As their spring, temperature was mild and mostly sunny. Cairns was comfortably warm & no rain. Darwin was warmer but still pleasant and no rain in sight. Ayers Rock was warm in the day & cold at night but overall very enjoyable. Like Alan said, the "in-between" months will be your best choice. Enjoy!

Melbourne in Sept is quite variable. You could have either fine, cool and sunny or cold and showers. Temp would be between 18c & 23c daily maximums.
|
Last year in late August/ beginning of September, Melbourne was quite cold and Sydney was warm, and Port Douglas was lovely warm.
|
Perth is usually lovely in spring. Mild days ranging in temp from 18c to 25C Just lovely for enjoying our beautiful and unique wildflowers that are blooming at that time of year;))
