What is the weather like in August in Australia?

Same as USA is January or December I should think

Edward, It would depend on what part of Australia you intend to visit. If it's the north, the weather would be mild and sunny and lovely, and very little rain. If, however, you intend visiting places in the south like Melbourne or Tasmania at that time, it would be pretty cold. But "cold" is a comparative term, right? :)

Edward,<BR>There are plenty of weather sites on the net that give you the average maximums and minimums for any city in the world. Decide what parts of Australia you want to visit and go from there. The difference between say Darwin in the North and Hobart in the South would be similar to say Miami and Buffalo in the US if indeed that is where you are from.<BR><BR>Darwin is about 12 degrees south of the equator and Hobart is about 43 degrees south of the equator, that's what makes your question so difficult to answer.<BR><BR>David

The others are certainly correct in that it depends on where you're going. I was there at the end of August-early September this year. Sydney was generally light jacket/sweater but at least one day was quite chilly and rainy. Cairns area was warm - perfect beach weather. Nice to be outdoors day or evening. Melbourne was warm/cold/rainy/chilly/windy all in the same day. The weather seemed to change hourly but definitely more on the chilly side.

Hi Liz,<BR>The weather can be very different in the States. I live 25 miles from the US border in Canada and we can have snow,(rarely) but mostly rain at this time of year. The temp is usually around 4-10C in our winter months. Now you can go to Florida where it can be in the mid to high 20'sC. You can also go to the mid-west where they can be in a deep freeze for weeks. Of course there is Hawaii and Alaska and I realize you didn't mean those areas when you were thinking US but I just wanted to point out that parts of the US can be frozen while others are basking in sunshine.<BR>Diane
