Walks in Kakadu with 2 wheel drive access?
 

I will have 4 or 5 nights in Kakadu, and plan to spend some of this time walking. I do intend to pick up maps within the park , but can anyone give me a heads up on any walks they carried out and really enjoyed while visiting the park. My initial thoughts include walks around the yellow water region. My visit will be in July

You will find plenty of places to walk around Kakadu in July (the Dry). Take a look at this National Parks website for suggested walks in Kakadu. (We did several walks, including the Ubirr walk which had fabulous views of Kakadu and Arnham Land and walks which had Aboriginal rock drawings.)

We too did the Ubirr walk and Nourlangie which was interesting too. Unfortunately I had flu while there so we didn't tackle anything too strenuous. There are many short and longer walks in the area. One place we did go to first was the information centre. Curses, I've forgotten the name. It's the main place to go where I think you get permits too. It's an awesome place to visit. Fascinating rock formations on the way to Ubirr.

We had a really memorable trip into Kakadu. We did Ubirr, Nourlangie and I'm thinking Jim Jim Falls as well. But we must have done more as we were there for 10 days (I think! Back in 1997) But the thing I do remember was that we were there for NT Day! Everybody was welcome for a free BBQ, soft drinks, ice creams and a night of fire works. We actually had THE best time that night.

Arriving atop of Ubirr was probably the highlight for me though - what an outstanding panorama!

Back then also the rangers would put on 'fire side' talks/slide shows and share a hot chocolate and a biscuit and discuss the local flora and fauna. This was quite common but not sure if this still happens in the Northern Territory - there were a number of parks where this occurred - I remember the same thing put on at Ormiston Gorge near Alice Springs.

I love the Red Centre.
