Victoria Court - Sydney reviews?
 

Looking at Victoria Court Hotel, Potts Point, Sydney for possible stay 5 days mid-January 2004 (group of 11)<BR><BR>Any comments/complaints/alternative suggestions?<BR><BR><BR>Karen

A lot of Sydney folk don't like it because of its location in the middle of Kings Cross but I think that Kings Cross still has something going for it. <BR>However I think the Victoria Court Hotel is a lovely and quaint place but perhaps I am biased as I was born there - a long time ago though. It is a pretty Victorian Terrace House and just behind it you can take the 300 steps down to Wooloomolloo ( I can't remember how to spell that) where you will find some interesting old places as that was the first wharf area in Sydney but now undergoing a major face change. Its only one stop on the train to Circular Quay. Finally at least you are getting something with some history and not just the same old hotel you will find in any city anywhere in the world. Go for it!!<BR>

<BR>The hotel is lovely, as are the proprietors...as Liz said, it's the location that is off-putting. However, the old expression &quot;safety in numbers&quot; could serve you well! With a group of 11 I doubt if too many people would bother you.<BR><BR>Melodie<BR>Certified Aussie Specialist

Hi, kstrueh!<BR>If your group of eleven are all adults, then go for it. You will practically fill the place, and the word &quot;quaint&quot;, used above, couldn't be more apt. And from there you can stroll down to Govinda's (your group will just about fill it, too) and have a beautiful meal with a free movie afterwards, at a more-than-reasonable price.<BR>If you are bringing your school group, however, or if the majority of your group are under-age, I'd skip the Cross, as it's a drug-and-sex-ridden, seedy place which has changed a lot in the eighty-or-so years since LizF was born there. There are other &quot;quaint&quot; hotels (such as the Lord Nelson Brewery) which would serve you better.

What do you mean 80 years old or so Alan - I turned the first bit of turf there!

PS <BR>I dunno about the sex and drugs thing in the Cross but it sure is better than Oxford Street, parts around Darling Harbour and other nasty little areas. I was in the Cross a year ago with my daughter and I thought it had mellowed a lot. However Victoria Road/Street is away from all that and it is a very nice street and the hotel is really lovely and elegant and I only wish that it was me running it.

Alan is jealous 'cause he is older than me and we don't always agree on things like, Kings Cross, wheelchairs, Depends and stuff like that. <BR>I &quot;think&quot; I may have sold my other business and so may be looking at buying a nice little cottage to use as a holiday rental for those who wish to stay in and around Paradise here. Actually, LizF, it's not a question of approving.... Alan wouldn't recognise it if he saw it!

If you don't recognise it Alan then take yourself down to Kings Cross and get with it ;0)
