Victoria Beaches
I'm in Melbourne and looking to take a day trip this weekend to the beach in Portsea, Sorriento, or Torque. Any thoughts?

Hi Emalz
How are you enjoying your time in Melbourne? Not sure what you're asking, but it looks as if you'll have good weather for it, so why not? Depending on where you're living, it may be closer to go down the Mornington Peninsula to Portsea/Sorrento - or around the other way to Torquay. Of course, you can always take the Queenscliff-Sorrento car ferry and do a loop to take them all in. That's the lovely thing about Melbourne - you can be out of town & somewhere interesting in no time at all. |
Thanks for your post. I am wondering which of the beaches are best for swimming/lounging?
It looks like they are all about 1.5 hour drives |
We have just come back from the Morningtom Penisula. Sorrento would be my suggestion. Mubble Ice Cream in th eMain street is great and "The Baths" Fish and Chips on the best are fabulous.
The Pier at Blairgowrie is fantastic to snorkel. I spent an hour under it and didn't see it all. Wonderful coulours and fish. You may even see a sea horse or two. Don't swim around too much just float and watch. The penisula hot springs are well worth a visit as well. As for swimming/lounging any of the bay beaches would do. the surf beaches of Torquaty etc. you would need to be careful. ENJOY. |
Thanks

Are you primarily interested in a day trip or just the beach? If it's the beach, St. Kilda beach is (presumably) a lot closer ....
