Very concerned about the Ritz in Sydney!!

My husband and I are staying there late in May for a week. I hear VERY mixed reviews and would like to have any and everyone's opinion about it. This is the Sydney Ritz - not the Double Bay one. Thanks for your input!

Like I said in my response to your post, we will NEVER stay in another Ritz Carlton........We were at Double Bay...but I don't know if the same people own the one in Sydney, downtown, however the Hyatt is a much better choice, and won't cost any more. Sorry to be to anti-Ritz, but it can sure spoil a vacation.

The person that I knew that left the Sydney Ritz after one night.

Dear Jen:
Don't know about the Ritz, but, Last November my wife and I stayed at the Rydges Wentworth in Sydney for three days. Elegant, classy, and falling over themselves to please. Highly recommend it.
John

Hi, we spent a wonderful few days in Sydney in November at the Park Hyatt at the Rocks. Great location, wonderful rooms, good service. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

We spent last New Year's Eve at the Ritz- Carlton in Sydney and could not recommend it more highly. The rooms were very nice (not huge), the location was excellent (although the views are not as good as the Park Hyatt) and moreover - the service was unbeatable !! If we were to go looking for something to complain about -we would probably say that the pool was too small. But, to be honest - we were too busy to use the pool.

In summary - next time we go to Sydney; we will be staying at the Ritz-Carlton.

The Sydney Ritz-Carlton has the reputation for the best service of any hotel in Sydney. There are hotels with better views but there are no better hotels than this one for service and the overall "feel". Take it from a Sydneysider who travels the world, this hotel is very very good and will not let you down. The other hotel mentioned above , Park Hyatt, is also a very good hotel.

Have you considered staying at the Observatory? It is a very elegant boutique hotel and one of the "Leading Hotels of the World" group.

I'd take the Park Hyatt any day. If you want a second option the Regent is good (apart from the pool) and the Observatory has a great pool but is a bit out of the way. I too would avoid the Ritz Carlton

Sorry to re-post......but the location, and service at the Hyatt is the best I've every experienced! Totally agree with the previous poster.

I have stayed at many Ritz hotels around the World and can't imagine having a bad experience at one. I haven't stayed at the one in Sydney. When there we stayed at the Intercontinental, near the ferries and
The Rocks. It was great. Some of my Sydney pics are at my website.

-Dave-
www.CrazyAboutTravel.com
We stayed there for three nights Christmas '98 and had a wonderful time. The location is unbeatable, next to the Opera House, Botanical Gardens, Ferrys. The restaurant was so so but who needs to eat at the hotel restaurant?
