Vaccinations for Fiji?

Can't find a good website for this info. Did any of you get shots when you went to Fiji?

Geoff Jan 1st, 2001 06:56 PM

None are needed.

The above is right however in the world today hepatitus A is highly recommended, even for parts of the USA. The economy of Fiji is now heading towards pure disastor. This does not mean that you should not visit but conditions are changing every day for the local people and the health conditions are bound to go down hill.

Tui Baba Jan 3rd, 2001 07:16 PM

Tell me Louis just what the hell do you know about the Fijian economy?
Do you live there?
Are you a Fijian businessman, Gov't official?
Or do you just spend your days spreading misinformation about a place you've never visited ecept in your feverish dreams?
Too much time on the net has taken hold of your senses Loius, time for a holiday in the real world.

What a rude reply. If you have read this board you would know Louis has been to Fiji many times as well as numerous other places in this world. He has been very helpful to many looking for travel advice. If you have current info about the conditions in Fiji, I'm sure we would all love to hear it.

Dear Tu Baba,
I so happen to know more than one person that is now living through the trauma that is now going on. I have checked in at fijilive from day one. I was there during your last election. I am well aware of your loss of medical personel and the current brain drain. I am well aware of the fact the some 1300 leases have expired the first of the year. I am well aware of the fact that your textile industry is in a state of ruin. Shall I go on. I just looked at the news today. There does not seem to be any agreement between the indigenous Fijians. On your own news you are having growing health problems, particularly in the sexual areas. I see the you are using a .org address. What are you going to about your country and your people. That is what this part of the world would like to know. You are free to answer. Many who have enjoyed your country would like to hear your answer.

Thank you Peggy. You don't really no what rude is if you have not looked at the forum on www.fijilive.net. I have sent a message to him direct inviting his conversation. I would love to hear from him. I wonder if his address is good. Mine is.

I most certainly wish to see this thread closed. However, I do what to clear the air regarding my intent.

First: I did want to recommend hepatitus A shots for anyone traveling to Fiji or anywhere today or even if they plan to stay home. We have had recent hepatitus outbreaks in San Diego.

Second: I did in no way want to discourage travel to Fiji. In fact I think it may be a great time since recent conditions may reduce the number of visitors. I would be more careful than before with valuables as proverty is growing however.

Third: I wish to apologize for Tui Baba's remarks. Things are really in a high degree of local stress in Fiji which has nothing to do with visitors. One excellent site to check out conditions is http://www.fijilive.net.
The deposed assistant Information Minister just said "The country is heading to disaster." I just suggested that the economy was heading in that direction.

I have attemped to contact Tui Baba direct and nothing has been returned or has he responded yet. I regret that I suggested that his e-mail address might not be valid.

I still would choose Fiji as one of the outstanding destinations in the world and today it is much safer than most.
