Urgent! Need advice because of road closure at Haast
 

Hello everyone,
Diamantina so kindly posted a link about the road closure at Haast. This does affect our trip. We arrived in Wanaka today, and we are scheduled to depart on Tuesday, November 12, for Franz Josef for 2 nights. And then continue on to Punakaiki for one night before driving to Kaiteritei. Obviously, we won’t be going to Franz Josef.

I posted some information and questions about this dilemma on my thread about packing list and weather. Can you check that thread? In a nutshell, we need to figure out the easiest and safest route to Punakaiki. Or should we eliminate the West Coast completely? If so, what would be good stops along the way to Kaiteriteri? We have 3 nights to fill in if it is too difficult to go to Punakaiki.

We have an early morning tour tomorrow for 4 hours. I will check back before I go to bed. But then I won’t be able to check in until tomorrow afternoon.
