Trip To New Zealand in March 2011

Hey guys,

My family (4 people) are going to New Zealand in March for our vacations. I really love New Zealand but i dont know what my itenary show look like. Could you guys help me out?

I wanna visit everywhere i can and do everything i could. I reach Auckland on 22nd March and depart on 20th April. We've got a whole month.

We wanna preferably goto Bay Of islands, Rotorua, Wanaku, Milford Sound, Mt. Cook, Christchurch, Queenstown and anywhere and everywhere.

We would love to skydive, ski, surf (if we can), go trekking, cycling. Fill me in on everything that can be done there.

We dont have a very high budget and are staying in low costing hotels.

Thank You! :)

You can probably spend 1/3 of your time in North island and 2/3 of that time in South Island.

South Island is more scenice and offers more activities that you can engage in: Adventure sports like bungee jump/whitewater rafting/jetboat/hanggliding etc. in Queenstown, caving/rafting in Charleston, glacier hike in Fox or Franz Josef Glaciers, whale watching in Kaikoura, blue penguins at Omaru, sealions/seals at the Catlins,Mt Cook hike, skydive/sea kayaking/canoeing at Abel Tasman, wineries at Blenheim....
North Island also offers blackwater rafting/abseiling and rock climbing in Waitomo, skydiving/jet boating/geysers in Rotorua....

There's a lot that you can do, it's almost impossible to list down all the options. Google! It's your best friend if you don't know where to start.

Working on a tightbudget, it is recommended you stay in hostels. Check out www.bbh.co.nz. It has a rating system so you can select the preferred choice.

NewZealandForever -

I find it difficult to respond to such a vague post. Asking us to "fill me in on everything that can be done there"....is unrealistic. You need to do some research and come back with more specific questions.

There's absolutely loads of info on NZ here...you just need to look.

We've established that you have almost a month, will fly in/out of Auckland and want to do everything.

You want to ski? As in snow ski? March/April is summer/spring.

You want to skidive? Take a look at Queenstown.

You want to surf? Take a look here:

You want to go trekking? Take a look here:

http://www.doc.govt.nz/

That should get you started.

We spent 10 days on the North Island in April 2004. If you click on my screen name, you can read my trip report.

Hi,

We are now 5 people going to New Zealand and i had a couple of questions...

1> What weather would it be in March/April?
2> Can we ski anywhere?
3> Which sport or a fun event is not done in March/April?
4> Is it better to hire a campervan and roam around nz or hire cars here and there or take buses?

Weather in NZ in March/April should be settled and fairly warm, but do be aware of school holidays which run from April 15 - May 2, and the long Easter weekend, which is a major holiday in NZ. Locals will be out in force, accommodation and activities fill up. You'll want to book during this time.

Some info regarding ski season in NZ:

We went in April. The leaves were changing and we had some cool weather, but no snow and only a little rain.

Rent a car so you can travel at your own pace.

Is it possible to ski or snowboard anywhere in nz by any chance? Also, which company hires the cheapest campervans for 5 people?

Not in March. Melnq8 answered this above already.

Have never rented a campervan (motorhome), there are listings on http://www.newzealand.com/
