Traveling Australia in June
Hello there! We're heading to Australia in June and I'm looking for suggestions and information on Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney. I understand that the weather will be warm up North, but what about Brisbane and Sydney? Can you give me some ideas on "what to do and see" in Brisbane while we're there? I'm traveling with a friend who has heard that Brisbane is dull, but I've heard the opposite. Any info appreciated! Thanks!

Katie,
June is winter in Oz, Cairns will be ok and warm (but not for swimming), Sydney will be cool/cold, Brisbane will be coolish. What you think of Brisbane will depend on your age (either mental or pyhsical!). Lets just say Brisbane is not regarded as a young persons city.

I don't agree with the first message. Yes, it is Winter but it is still very warm in Cairns, warm enough for swimming. Sydney in Winter is mild to cool and Brisbane is mild and very pleasant. I don't particularly like Cairns and prefer to stay at Port Douglas which is about 45 mins. drive north of Cairns. Brisbane is good for a couple of days but head a little further north to beautiful Noosa or south to Byron Bay. Both are about 1-2 hours drive from Brisbane. Byron Bay is popular with young people, especially backpackers.
Enjoy

Do you have approximate temperature ranges for Brisbane? I don't have any idea what range "coolish" falls in. If you're from California 70's can be coolish but if you're from New York that's quite comfortable. It depends on what you're used to. Can you give me a degree range so I know how to pack? Thanks.
